How I work

Seeking treatment for your alcohol or drug use might seem scary, overwhelming, embarrassing even… and you might be uncertain about where you are at with it.  That’s OK.  I will try and meet you where you are at, and work with you at whatever place you find yourself right now.

My intention is to provide a warm, compassionate, non-judgemental, safe space for you to explore your alcohol and drug use in the context of the other parts of your life.

I use my specialist knowledge, experience and skill set to try and help you make meaningful change in your alcohol or drug use and improve your overall physical, mental, personal and emotional well-being.

I utilise evidence-based approaches to treatment including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Schema-informed Therapy

I can help with issues relating to:

  • alcohol
  • cannabis
  • benzodiazepines (eg. temazepam, diazepam (eg. Valium), alprazolam (eg. Xanax), oxazepam)
  • zolpidem (eg. Stilnox)
  • opioids (eg. fentanyl, codeine, tapentadol, heroin, morphine, oxycodone)
  • nicotine (eg. cigarettes, rollys or vapes)
  • GHB/GBL

Support can also include linking you into other services if needed such as:

  • inpatient or assisted home detoxification

  • communicating with your GP if required

Do you need help with your alcohol or drug use?

If you’re looking at this website, then perhaps you already know that something isn’t sitting right with your drinking or drug use in your life.

In brief, an alcohol or substance use problem that may lead to help-seeking is when you experience difficulties associated with your use including:

  • trouble moderating or stopping your use
  • tension in your relationships
  • development or worsening of anxiety, worry or low mood/depression
  • development or worsening of physical/medical conditions
  • difficulties with your job or study
  • financial problems
  • development or worsening of insomnia
  • contact with the law
  • continuing to use even though it puts you or others in danger
  • making poor decisions that have consequences for yourself or others
  • attending fewer important social or recreational activities
  • difficulty fulfilling your usual responsibilities or responsibilities or obligations
  • feeling you are not your best authentic self, or continually acting in conflict with your values
  • an increased desire to use alcohol/drugs
  • noticing that you need more (alcohol or drugs) to achieve the same effect as when you first started using
  • feeling physically and/or mentally unwell when you are not using or drinking or after stopping
  • noticing that you get less pleasure from other non-substance related activities as previously

If you’ve noticed any of the above, you may at risk of experiencing harms from your alcohol/substance use, including the risk of a substance use disorder.
